Huntington University announced that Mississinewa High School
outfielder Ryan Shell has committed to play baseball for the Foresters
this fall. During his senior year in high school, Shell hit .506 with
five doubles, 23 RBI and 18 stolen bases. For his efforts Shell was
named First Team All-Conference, First Team All County and First Team
All-State.
“Ryan is going to be a
great addition to our team,” says head baseball coach Mike Frame. “He
is athletic, and as he gets stronger, he will be a very good college
outfielder with very good offensive skills. He obviously had an
outstanding senior year and we think his best baseball is ahead of
him. He will give us some depth in the outfield and will have a chance
to make an impact right away. He is a quality young man and we are
very happy that he will be on campus this fall.”
Huntington University is a member of the Mid-Central Conference (MCC)
and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). On
the baseball field, HU has captured the MCC regular season
championship or conference tournament championship 26 times in 46
years. The Foresters have also had eight former players go on to
careers in professional baseball, including Heath Luther with the
Anaheim Angels in 2001 and Greg Slee with the Seattle Mariners in
2004.
