- The
Foresters traveled to Tennessee to open their spring season and topped
Freed-Hardeman University 12-6 in their first game of the weekend.
HU traded three runs
with the Lions through the first two innings and then took a 4-3 lead
in the top of third when Keith Benbow doubled in Andy Janzen.
The Foresters added three runs in the fifth and then put the game out
of reach with five more in the sixth. Jason Rahn delivered the
big blow with a three-run homerun, his second round-tripper of the
game, to put HU on top 12-3.
Freed-Hardeman got
three back in the bottom of the eighth, but could get no closer.
The Foresters got
the season off to a good start at the plate banging out 14 hits in
their opener. Alex Rinearson led HU with three hits, including
two doubles and Rahn knocked in four runs with his two long-balls.
Drew Taylor (1-0)
went the distance for the Foresters giving up six runs on eight hits
with five strike outs and just one walk.
“It
is always good to win your first game, especially with today being our
first day outside and on a field," said Coach Frame. "We made a
couple of mistakes in the outfield, but we did swing the bats well. We
had 14 hits, but we left 10 men on base, so we can get better. Drew
pitched well even though he gave up four homeruns. It was a tough day
to pitch with the wind blowing out.”
