- For the tenth time, the
Foresters headed south to Daytona Beach for their spring break trip to
take on what is customarily some of the season's toughest competition.
HU finished the week at .500 with a 4-4 record.
The Foresters opened up play with a 3-0 win over Savannah College of
Art & Design. Drew Taylor moved to 3-0 on the season going the
distance in the win. He gave up eight hits and a walk while
striking out seven. Thad Frame led HU at the plate with three
hits in the game including a double. Box

Later in the day,
the Foresters ran into some tough pitching and fell 3-1 to Grand View
College. HU got on the board first with a two-out RBI single
from Andy Janzen in the top of the seventh, but the lead was
short-lived as the Vikings answered back with three in their half of
the inning to put the game out of reach. Eric Randel (0-3) went
six and two-thirds innings in the loss. He gave up three runs on
seven hits and one walk while striking out four.

The next day, the
Foresters got their revenge outlasting Grand View 14-13. The
Vikings tallied 17 hits in the game to 16 for HU, but it was Grand
View's eight errors that gave the Foresters the advantage they needed
to pull off the victory. Keith Benbow came on in relief and got the
final Viking out in the top of the ninth to pick up his first save of
the season. Michael Dalton (1-2) earned the win in relief.
HU's Korey Grow tied a NAIA record with five doubles in the game.
He joined Andrew Drummond and Frame with two RBI in the game.

Against NAIA
22nd-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the Foresters scored
a pair in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles took
command of the game by plating 10 runs in the bottom of the inning.
ERAU added one more in the sixth and held HU in the seventh to bring
the game to an early conclusion at 12-2. Levi Sell took the loss
for the Foresters. In four and a third innings, he allowed seven runs
on nine hits and three walks. Drummond and Alex Rinearson each
had two hits for HU. Box

The Foresters got
back in the win column with a 13-1 rout of Virginia Intermont College.
They used two big innings to put the game away with five in the second
and seven in the fifth. HU got another outstanding pitching
performance from Taylor who moved to 4-0 on the season. He gave
up one run on four hits and he struck out six. Frame also played
a big role in the win as he drove in five runs with a 3 for 5
performance at the plate that included a double.

The Foresters next met
Mount Vernon Nazarene University and fell 14-9. Down 7-3 in the
fifth, HU came up with a big six-run inning to take a 9-7 lead, but
they couldn't hold it. The Cougars made it 9-8 in the sixth and
then took the lead for good with five in the seventh. Zach Crooks led
the Foresters with three hits and Sell had four RBI. Eric Randel
(0-4) was the pitcher of record in the loss. He throw six and
two-thirds innings and gave up 10 runs on 14 hits and a walk while
striking out one. Box Score
In their final two games of the week,
the Foresters split a pair of games with Capital University. HU
was out-hit 17-3 in the first game and fell 13-1, but came back the
next day with an 11-6 victory over the Crusaders. In the first
contest, the Foresters couldn't find any offense, while Capital plated
runs in sixth of the seven innings. Michael Dalton (1-3) went
five innings in the loss. He gave up six runs on nine hits and
five base on balls.
In the re-match, the Crusaders picked
up where they left off, scoring in each of the first four innings to
take a 5-2 lead. The Foresters battled back with four in the top
of the fifth to push ahead 6-5. Capital knotted it at 6-6 in the
bottom of the sixth, but HU came back with five in the top of the
seventh to seal the win. Rinearson had three hits including a
double and a triple and three RBI to lead the Foresters at the plate.
Frame added three hits and two RBI. Benbow notched his first win
going two innings in relief.
