- After
knocking off 14th-ranked Campbellsville University on Thursday, the
Foresters (2-4) came up short twice on Friday losing 11-8 and 5-1 to
the Tigers (13-2).
In game one, Campbellsville had a 2-0
lead after three innings. In the top of the fourth, HU got on
the board with a lead-off homerun from Alex Rinearson. Korey Grow
followed that up with a double and then scored on an Adam Farris
double. Levi Sell plated Farris with another double and Zach
Crooks knocked in Sell with a sacrifice squeeze bunt to give the
Foresters a 4-2 lead.
The two teams
traded a run in their next at-bat, but then the Tigers blew the game
open with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. HU pulled back
within three at 11-8 with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the
rally ended there.
Josh Clark went
four and two-thirds innings in the loss. He gave up seven runs
on eight hits and three walks while striking out two. Austin Kas
and Grow each had three hits to lead the Foresters. Grow also
had a team-high two RBI.
In the nightcap, HU
took advantage of two wild throws by the Tigers to take the early 1-0
lead in the top of the first, but couldn't put together any of its own
offense the rest of the game. Campbellsville's Jason Neufeld
held the Foresters to two hits throughout the seven innings. The
Tigers tied the score with a run in the third and added two in the
fourth and sixth to put the game out of reach.
Eric Randel threw
five innings in the loss. He gave up three runs on six hits and
three walks. Jon Rolon and Kas recorded the only hits for HU.
"We probably played better in losing twice today, then we did
winning yesterday," said Coach Frame. "Our middle relief let us
down a little in the first game, but our pitching was solid in the
second game. Offensively, we are starting to get more comfortable
against good pitching. Overall I was pleased with the weekend."
