"We needed a couple of pitchers to step up tonight and we got two very
good starts," said Coach Frame. "Michael showed some signs that he
might be returning to form and Trent was just outstanding in the
second game. We were not great offensively in either game, but our
starting pitching was very good."
In the opener, Thad Frame doubled to drive in Austan Kas in the
bottom of the first to give HU an early lead. The Foresters
added two more in the fourth for a 3-0 advantage. The Cougars
made it interesting by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but
Dalton made enough good pitches to cut the rally short.
Dalton (2-4) earned his first the complete game victory of the
season allowing two runs on four hits and five walks while striking
out three. Kas and Frame both had two hits and one RBI to lead
HU.
In game two, the Foresters gave Huffman a comfortable 3-0 lead when
clean-up hitter, Alex Rinearson, belted a three-run homerun deep to
left in his first at-bat. St. Francis got one back in the top of
the fourth, but HU responded with four in their half of the frame and
added two more in the fifth to seal the win.
Huffman earned his first victory of the year for HU. He went
six innings and gave up two runs on six hits and he struck out four.
Rinearson went 3-4 at the plate including a double and his first
inning homerun and he had a team-high three RBI.
