- The Foresters (19-18, 13-9) had trouble finding much of any
offense as they dropped two games to the NAIA 6th-ranked Spring Arbor Cougars 1-0 and
11-1.
In the opener, pitching was the story
as two All-Conference hurlers squared off. MCC Player of the
Year, Jesse Bachman, shut out HU on five hits and four strikeouts.
Drew Taylor, a 2007 All-Conference pitcher, kept the Cougar hitters
off balance at the plate through five innings. With one out in
the bottom of the sixth, Taylor hit Brad Baker, walked Eric Vojkofsky
and then gave up a single to left, which scored Baker for the only run
of the game.
Taylor finished the game allowing one
run on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Korey
Grow was the lone Forester with two hits in the game.
In game two, the Cougars owned a 2-1
lead through three innings then broke the game open with three runs in
the fourth and five more in the fifth. An additional run in the
sixth brought the game to an early close.
Spring Arbor out-hit the Foresters
11-3 and HU committed three errors in the game. Eric Randel took
the loss for the Foresters. He went four innings and gave up 10
runs, seven earned, on nine hits and six walks while striking out one.
Thad Frame had two the HU's three hits.
