- The Foresters (21-18, 15-9) concluded their regular season
with a two-game sweep over Grace College winning 7-2 and 7-1.
The two wins also secured HU a second place finish in the conference
standings behind NAIA 6th-ranked Spring Arbor University.
In game one, the Foresters jumped out
to a 3-0 lead in their first at-bat, which would be all they would
need. They added another in the fourth and a pair in the fifth before
the Lancers put two on the board in the sixth. HU added one more
in the seventh to seal the win.
Thad Frame collected three hits,
including a double, and scored two runs to lead the Forester offense.
Alex Rinearson added a double and two RBI. Josh Clark improved
to 3-2 on the season with the win. He went the distance allowing
two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.
In game two, HU again got on the
board first with two runs in the third and they held a 7-0 lead
heading into the bottom of the sixth. Grace got one back on a
leadoff homerun, but the threat ended there.
Levi Sell led the Foresters with two
hits, including a double, and two runs driven in. Frame added
two more hits and scored two runs in the contest. Michael Dalton
(3-4) shut out Grace for five innings for the win. He gave up
four hits and a walk and struck out five.
The Foresters will now head into the
MCC Tournament on Wednesday, May 2 at Indiana Wesleyan University as
the #1 seed. HU will face #6 St. Francis in first round action
at 10:00 a.m. As the regular season champion, Spring Arbor gets
an automatic bid to the Region VIII Tournament on May 9-12.
