- After giving up the lead late in game one to fall 8-2, the Foresters
responded with a 7-1 win in the nightcap to earn the split with
Indiana Wesleyan University.
In the first game, HU (9-10, 3-1)
nursed a slim 2-1 lead through five innings, but couldn't make it
stick. The Wildcats scored four times in the sixth and added
three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Keith Benbow, who came on in relief
of starter Josh Clark, was the pitcher of record for HU. Six
different players had one hit in the game for the Foresters.
Brandon Moore recorded the win for IWU.
"We just were not very good in the first
game," said Coach Frame. "Brandon Moore is a very good pitcher, but
did not have good stuff tonight. He battled and got his team a win.
"We just could not take advantage."
In the nightcap, Levi Sell was two
outs away from a no-hitter when Indiana Wesleyan's Matt Harmon dropped
in a one-out single to center to break it up. HU took the early
lead with a run in the first. The Wildcats manufactured a run in
the fourth on a walk, a two-base wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to tie
the game. The Foresters answered with four in their half of the
frame and then added one more in the fifth and sixth to seal the win.
Sell got the complete game victory,
giving up one run on one hit and six walks while striking out five.
Thad Frame had three hits including a double to lead HU's offense.
Korey Grow and Benbow each drove in two runs.
"The second game we started to swing the bats better as the game
went along," said Coach Frame. "Obviously, Levi was very good taking a
no hitter into the 7th. We need some guys to step up on the mound for
us, especially in relief. We can play a lot better than we did today
and it needs to start soon."
