- After having a week layoff due to poor weather conditions, the
Foresters were finally able to get back on the field as they traveled
to Indianapolis to face Marian College. HU got off to a slow
start, losing game one 3-2, but then got their bats going to win the
nightcap 10-4.
The Knights plated a run in the
bottom of the first to open the scoring in game one. HU (10-11,
4-2)
tied it up in the third and took a brief 2-1 lead with another run in
the top of the fourth. Marian quickly reclaimed the lead with
two in their half of the fourth and then held the Foresters in check
the remainder of the game.
Zach Crooks led the Foresters at the
plate with a 3-3 performance and a RBI. Drew Taylor (5-1) lost
for the first time this season for HU. He went the distance and
gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four.
In the nightcap, Eric Randel (2-4)
threw six scoreless innings to pick up his second win of the year.
He struck out two while allowing four hits and three free passes.
Jonathon Rudy, who came on in relief of Randel, gave up four runs on
four hits and a walk in the final inning.
HU took a commanding 5-0 lead after
two innings and added three more in the fourth and one in the fifth
and seventh before the Knights finally got on the scoreboard with four
in their last at-bat.
The Foresters banged out 14 hits to
eight for Marian. Korey Grow went 4-4 at the plate and scored
two runs to lead HU. Alex Rinearson had three hits including a
double and drove in three runs. Andrew Drummond also added three
RBI on a two-run double in the first and a sacrifice fly in the
fourth.
"We were a little rusty offensively the first game," said Coach
Frame. "Marian's number one pitcher is pretty good, but we let
him off the hook a couple of times. Drew pitched well enough to win.
We got hurt on a inning ending routine ground ball that hit the bag at
first base and led to their 2nd and 3rd run. Eric was very good in the
second game and we were better offensively."
