- For the eleventh time, the
Foresters headed south to Daytona Beach for their spring break trip to
take on what is customarily some of the season's toughest competition.
HU went 4-2 on the week bringing the season record to 5-6.
The Foresters began play by splitting a doubleheader with Mount Vernon
Nazarene University. HU won the first 5-1 and dropped the second
2-1 to the Cougars.
In the opener, the Foresters got three runs in the third and put the
game out of reach with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Michael Dalton picked up the win for HU going five innings and giving up
a run on three hits and six walks while
striking out nine. Korey Grow led HU at the plate with three
hits and two RBI in the game. Box

In the nightcap,
the Foresters held a 1-0 lead through six innings of play, but the
Cougars picked up two runs in the top of the seventh and then held off
HU in its final at-bat to gain the split. Austan Kas and Edwin
Rodriguez each had two hits in the contest. Drew Taylor went
six and two-thirds innings in the loss. He gave up two runs on
nine hits and walked one while striking out six.

The next day, the
Foresters unloaded 24 hits on NAIA 13th-ranked Ohio Dominican
University in a 27-2 rout. HU started out slowly with just two runs in
its first at-bat, then banged out eight hits and took advantage of
three Tiger errors to plate 11 in the top of the second. The
barrage continued with six more runs on six hits and another ODU error
in the third. The Tigers finally retired HU in order in the
fourth, but the Foresters added eight more over the final three
innings before the game mercifully came to an end. Eric Randel
had a solid outing for HU in the win. He went six innings and
allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six.
Kas led the Foresters with five hits, including three doubles, and
four runs scored. Alex Rinearson and Grow each went deep and
racked up six and five RBI respectively. Box Score
On Thursday, HU
again faced the 13th-ranked Tigers and came away with the 6-1 win earn
the sweep. ODU jumped in front 1-0 in the first, but the
Foresters got all they would need with three in the bottom of the
second. HU added a run in the third, seven and eighth innings to
put the game out of reach. Trent Huffman went seven innings in the win
for HU, giving up one run on one hit and six walks while striking out
five. Adam Farris paced the Foresters with three hits including a

The next day's
competition turned out to be the rubber match with Mount Vernon
Nazarene University and the Cougars earned bragging rights with the
10-4 victory. MVNU got one in the first and scored in each of the
first five innings to take an 8-0 lead. HU got two in the bottom
of the fifth and one in the sixth, but the Cougars squelched the rally
attempt with two in the seventh to put the game away. Drew Taylor took
the loss for the Foresters. He threw four innings and gave up
seven runs on 11 hits and he struck out six. Rinearson, Keith
Benbow and Zach Crooks each chipped in two hits for HU.

In their final game
of the week, the Foresters faced the University of Rio Grande and
finished the week with a 13-3 win. HU took command of the game
with six runs on five hits in the top of the third and added two more
in both the fourth and the sixth before the Redmen got on the board.
Rio pushed three across in the bottom of the sixth, but the Foresters
got all three back in the top of the seventh to put the game out of
reach. Dalton picked up his second win of the week after
throwing five and two-thirds innings. He gave up three runs on
seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Rodriguez
led HU at the plate with three hits and three RBI.
