- The Foresters used some timely hitting and solid pitching to
edge NAIA 9th-ranked Spring Arbor University 4-3 in game one of a
doubleheader. Game two never got underway and was cancelled
because of the rain.
The Cougars pushed the first run across in the top of the second, but
HU struck back the bottom of the third. A leadoff single by
Andrew Drummond became the first run following a sacrifice bunt, a
wild throw and a misplayed grounder. Korey Grow then delivered
the timely two-out double that pushed both Austan Kas and Thad Frame
across.
Spring Arbor got one back in the top
of the fifth, but Frame matched it with his first round-tripper of the
season in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars pulled within
one with another run scored in the sixth, but Grow came on in relief
of Eric Randel in the seventh and picked up his fifth save of the
year.
Drummond was the lone Forester with
two hits in the game and Grow led the team with his two RBI.
Randel moved to 5-1 with the win. He allowed three runs on nine
hits and a walk and he struck out one in six innings of work.
