- The Foresters completed their second series sweep of the
conference season with two more wins 10-5 and 15-5 over Goshen
College.
HU got the bats going early in the opener with five hits leading to
two runs in the bottom of the first. The two teams traded four
runs over the next two innings, but the Foresters put the game out of
reach with another run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
HU's pitching staff got the job done
by committee with four different players throwing at least one inning.
Travis Frantz, who came on in relief of starter Adam Farris in the
fourth, recorded his first win of the season. He threw two
innings without giving up a hit, but he allowed one unearned run.
HU out-hit the Maple Leafs 15-4 for
the game. Austan Kas was a perfect 3-3 at the plate and had a
team-high three RBI to lead the Foresters. Edwin Rodriguez also
chipped in three hits, two of which were doubles.
In the second game, Goshen plated two
in the first, but HU answered with four runs including a three-run
homerun by Farris in its half of the inning. The Foresters added
three more in the second and a pair in the third to make it 9-2.
The Maple Leafs got three back in the fourth, but HU put Goshen away
with five runs in the fifth, including a second longball by Farris to
lead off the inning. One more run in the bottom of the sixth
brought the game to an early conclusion.
Avery Simonds notched his first win
of the year for HU. He went three innings and gave up two runs
on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Kas remained
perfect on the day with another 3-3 performance at the plate. He
also scored three runs and drove in two. Farris led the team
with four RBI.
With the two wins, the Foresters move
to 16-7 on the season and 11-1 in the MCC.
