- After allowing game one to slip through their fingers 7-5 in
the last inning, the Foresters rallied from a 5-4 deficit in game two
for a 12-5 win over NAIA 12th-ranked Spring Arbor University to split
the doubleheader.
In the first game, HU
seemed to have things under control with a 5-2 lead as they headed to
the bottom of the seventh, but the Cougars made the most of their
final at-bat. First, they got a one-out solo homerun to cut it
to 5-3 and then following a base hit, a walk and a hit batsman, Brad
Baker pelted the walk-off grand slam to steal the game from the
Foresters 7-5.
Korey Grow (0-2), who came on in
relief of Michael Dalton with one out in the seventh, took the loss.
Edwin Rodriguez and Ryan Shell both had three hits to lead HU at the
plate.
In game two, the Foresters plated
three in the top of the first, but Spring Arbor answered with four in
their half of the frame. Both teams added another run in the
third, but HU blew things open with four runs in the fifth, which
included a three-run double by Austan Kas. The Foresters then
put the game away with four more in the sixth.
Drew Taylor evened his record at 3-3
with the complete game win. He allowed five runs on five hits
and five walks while striking out five. Adam Farris had a
team-high three hits in the game and Kas and Shell both drove in a
team-leading three runs.
The split moves the Foresters to 17-8 on the season and 12-2 in the MCC.
