Huntington
University has announced that Rochester High School grad Mitch
Bowers has committed
to play baseball for the Foresters this fall. The 6’4 right hander
was 4-5 with a 1.48 ERA his senior year. In just over 56 innings
pitched, he had with 58 strikeouts and only 10 walks. He was voted
Rochester’s team MVP, outstanding pitcher and mental attitude award
winner. He was named 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team Academic
All-Conference, and Honorable Mention Academic All- State.
“We are truly excited Mitch is coming to
HU,” says head baseball coach Mike Frame. “We think he has all the
tools to be an outstanding pitcher. He has a great arm, good size,
and a solid work ethic. His best days are ahead of him. He is a
first class young man and a great student. He will make a
contribution for us right away.”
Huntington University is a member of the Mid-Central College
Conference (MCC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA). On the baseball field, HU has captured the MCC
regular season championship or conference tournament championship 27
times in 48 years. In 2008 HU finished 32-14 which included a MCC
tournament championship. The Foresters have also had eight former
players go on to careers in professional baseball, including Heath
Luther with the Anaheim Angels in 2001 and Greg Slee with the Seattle
Mariners in 2004.
Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts college
located in Huntington, IN, with an enrollment of approximately 1100
students. Athletically, HU competes in fourteen intercollegiate
sports for both men and women.
