02.26.09 - The Foresters opened their spring season on the road at Freed-Hardeman University in Tennessee and knocked off the Lions 5-3.

HU put one on the board in their first at-bat with a clutch two-hit single by Travis Frantz that scored Ryan Shell.  In the top of the second, Eric Harpring got things started again with a one-out single and a stolen base. After Cody Richey grounded out, leadoff hitter Justin Branock sent one deep to make it 3-0, but the Foresters weren't finished in the inning.  Shell singled, Edwin Rodriguez walked and Andrew Drummond singled to drive in Shell for a 4-0 lead.

Freed-Hardeman got one back in the bottom half of the frame and added another in the third.  The Lions made it 4-3 with another run in the bottom of the sixth, but HU answered with one in the top of the seventh.  Shell reached on a error and moved to third on a Rodriguez single.  Drummond then grounded into a double play giving Shell an opportunity to score.  Freed-Hardeman had runners in scoring position in both the seventh and the ninth, but the Foresters made the necessary plays to keep the Lions at bay.

Drew Taylor (1-0) went the distance in the win for HU. He gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out nine.  The Foresters out-hit Freed-Hardeman 9-4, but committed three errors to just one for the Lions.  Drummond and Harpring both had two hits to lead HU at the plate.  Branock drove in two with his first round-tripper of the season.
