The Foresters won two of their final three games on their spring break
trip in Florida. They blew out Grand View 11-1 and Rio Grande
10-1 then fell 11-7 to Ohio Dominican in their final game.
Against Grand View,
HU out-hit the Vikings 15-6 in the contest. Grand View put one
on the board first in the top of the second, but would be held
scoreless the remainder of the game. The Foresters got all they
would need with three in the fourth. They added another in the
fifth, five in the seventh and two in the eighth to earn the 11-1
victory.
Drew Taylor went
the distance in the the win for HU. He allowed one run on six
hits and a walk while striking out four. Eric Schultz and Eric
Harpring both had three hits in the game and Travis Frantz led the
Foresters with three RBI.
In Friday's 10-1
win over Rio Grande, HU had one less hit than the Red Storm, but was
more efficient in producing runs. Rio Grande took a 1-0 lead in
the bottom of the second, but the Foresters responded with a pair of
runs in the top of the third.
In the top of the
sixth, HU exploded for eight runs to take command of the game.
Andrew Drummond delivered the knockout punch with a grand slam over
the centerfield fence which gave the Foresters a 10-1 lead. HU's
defense maintained the margin down the stretch.
Mitch Bowers
recorded the win for the Foresters. He threw the first seven
innings and allowed one run on 11 hits and a walk while striking out
four. Justin Branock paced HU at the plate with a 4-5
performance and Drummond finished with a team-high five RBI.
The Foresters'
final game of the week was a seesaw affair with Ohio Dominican.
HU led 4-1 after three and a half innings, but the Panthers scored
four times in the bottom of the fourth and once more in the fifth to
jump in front 6-4. The Foresters came back with three in the top
of the sixth to reclaim a 7-6 advantage, but they couldn't make it
stick. Ohio Dominican rallied with five more runs in the bottom
of the sixth for an 11-7 lead and denied HU a rally attempt in the
seventh.
Anthony Roth, who
came on in relief of starter Eric Randel in the sixth, took the loss
for the Foresters. He gave up five runs on five hits and two
walks. Edwin Rodriguez led HU at the plate with two hits,
including a double and a homerun, and five RBI.
The Foresters
return home to begin conference play with a 7-8 record on the season. |
