- Offense has been pretty consistent for the Foresters who are
averaging nearly eight runs per game this season and it was their
bats that came through again in an 11-6, 9-7 sweep over Rochester
College.
HU led 3-2 after two
innings in the opener and was up 6-5 after trading three runs with
the Warriors in the fourth. The Foresters blew the game open
when they exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth. With two
outs in the inning, HU strung together a walk and four consecutive
hits, including a two-run triple by Edwin Rodriguez, to score the
first four runs and then took advantage of two wild pitches to plate
the fifth one. Rochester got one back in the bottom of the
frame to make it 11-6, but it was as close as the Warriors would
get.
Eric Randel threw six innings in
the win for the Foresters. He gave up six runs, four earned,
on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.
Eric Schultz, Eric Harpring and Rodriguez each had two hits in the
game and Rodriguez had a game-high five RBI.
In the nightcap, Rochester got on
the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, but
HU came back with four in the top of the third. The Foresters
added two more in the fourth, and after exchanging a pair of runs
with the Warriors in the fifth, they led 8-4. HU then tacked on an
insurance run in the top of the seventh. Rochester came to the
plate for its final at-bat and put the first two batters on base.
Jeff Pickens then sent one deep to make it 9-7. Coach Frame
brought in Travis Frantz from the bullpen and he retired the
Warriors in order to pick up the save.
Harpring recorded the win for HU.
He went 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits and five
walks while striking out two. Jarod Hammel and Schultz each
had three hits in the game and Ryan Shell and Cody Richey both had
two RBI.
With the two wins, the Foresters
move to 20-12 on the season. |
