- There is no better remedy for putting two disappointing
losses behind you then to come back the next day with stellar
performances on the mound that lead to a Forester 10-1 and 6-3 sweep
of Marian College.
Drew Taylor and Mitch Bowers combined
to give up just five hits to the Knights on the day. Taylor
allowed two in the opener and Bowers followed that up with a
three-hitter in the nightcap.
Taylor got a lot of help from the
offense in game one. HU scored at least one run in each of the
middle five innings to earn the 10-1 victory. Travis Frantz
broke open a 2-0 game with a three-run blast to left in the third
inning. The Foresters added one in the fourth and fifth and then
secured the win with three more runs in the sixth.
Edwin Rodriguez had three hits to
lead HU at the plate and Frantz finished the game with four RBI.
Game two was a seesaw battle.
Marian put one on the scoreboard first in the third, but the Foresters
tied it in the fourth and jumped in front 2-1 with another run in the
fifth. The Knights reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the
sixth, but HU had one final at-bat to respond.
Jarod Hammel led off the top of the
seventh with a single up the middle. One out later, Eric Schultz beat
out a bunt and pushed Hammel to second. Eric Harpring
singled to left to drive in Hammel and knot the score at 3-3.
Rodriguez was then intentionally walked to load the bases.
Marian pitcher Ricky Parrish got
Drummond to line out to second base for the second out of the inning,
but the next HU batter he faced, Ryan Shell, showed good patience and
drew a walk that forced Schultz in from third for the eventual
game-winner. Frantz followed up the walk with a single to left center
to give HU two more insurance runs before the Knights ended the rally.
Bowers allowed three runs, two earned,
on three hits and two walks while striking out three in the win.
Harpring led the Foresters with three hits and two RBI in the contest.
Drummond provided HU's only extra base hit, a leadoff homerun in the
fourth.
With the two wins, the Foresters improve to 14-11 on the season and
7-3 in the MCC. |
