With the
return of all position players as well as a talented incoming recruiting
class, the Foresters are looking to continue their winning ways.
Topping the list of returners are seniors Andrew Drummond (1B), a
two-time MCC All-Conference pick, who finished last season with a .442
batting average, 11 doubles, 7 homeruns and 47 RBIs and Eric Harpring
(OF), who hit .391 with 36 runs and 28 RBIs. Junior Travis
Frantz's (3B/P) versatility will add depth to the Forester line-up.
Frantz, who was named to the 2008 MCC Gold Glove Team for his fielding
at third base, also went 2-0 from the mound with a 1.08 ERA and 3 saves.
Sophomore shortstop Eric Schultz will look to pick up where he left off.
During the 2008 campaign, Schultz hit .408 with 53 runs, 32 walks, 11
stolen bases and 23 RBIs. With a year of collegiate pitching under
his belt, Mitch Bowers looks to build on his 7-5, 5.29 ERA finish from
last season.
Coach Frame is looking for the Forester newcomers to make an immediate
impact. Leading the way will be former Huntington North Vike Jamon
Hammel. Other players to watch including outfielder Adam Christner
from Westview HS, pitcher Cody Walters from Daleville HS and
outfielder/catcher Matt Hitt, a transfer from Kaskaskia Community
College.
The
Foresters finished last year with 26 wins, despite losing 11 seniors and
7 starters from the previous year. They will once again have big
shoes to fill with the graduation of several pitchers and power hitter
Edwin Rodriguez but the 2009 squad is loaded with talent and ready to
meet the challenge.
