| Currently, the HU
Cheerleaders/Lifters attend Men’s and Women’s home basketball games and
selected away conference games. Devotions are done during the
season and you will find the girls/guys performing special half-time
routines throughout the season.
Tryouts took place in May and September. At that time all candidates were judged on their
abilities. The 2007-2008 squad consist of 9 cheerleaders
and 3 lifters. If you are interested in trying out for an
upcoming season refer to the tryout page. We are looking for
girls and guys.
Some of the 2007-2008 squad attended their second annual UCA cheer training camp in Knoxville, TN.
The group left on Monday, August 24th and returned on
Sunday, August 30th. This was a great learning
experience. Everyone had a good time and believe it was a
great start to the season.
In October
the squad helped out with " Meet the Player" night
held at Northstar Civic Center in Huntington. It was a
time to get to know the new members of the new HU Forester Men's
Basketball team and raise a little money that was put towards the
cheer program.
The 2007-2008 squad participated in
several activities besides games and practices. In December
they held their annual team Christmas party at the coach's house.
In January the squad held a clinic for the Upwards Cheer Program.
In February we had our annual HU cheer clinic and all participants
were then able to return and cheer with us at a game. In April
we traveled to captain Tiffany Seiter's house were we practiced for
our first competition ever. This was an excellent experience
for the squad and we even took home a 1st place trophy.
Just recently the annual end of the
year banquet was held. The coach gave a speech and everyone received
their varsity letters along with medals thanking them for their hard
work and dedication to the squad. 2 of the members were
awarded with "Most Improved". Those members were Kelci VanDam
and Matt Friedlund. As always "Captain" awards were given but
these were 2 seniors to remember. Tiffany Seiter and Bethany
Lynch have made a tremendous impact on this years squad and for the
coach these were 2 seniors that are really going to be missed!
Overall, the 2007-2008 was one of the
best years for the HU Cheer Program and looking forward to another
one for the 2008-2009 season.
