In their only home
contest of the year, the Forester harriers made the most of their home course
advantage taking both the men’s and women’s titles in the E. DeWitt Baker
Cross Country Invitational.
In the
men’s 8k race, four Foresters placed in the top eight to help HU claim first
place with a team score of 18. Marian College was second with 49 points and
Bethel was third with 67.
Nick
Johnson, who placed third overall, paced the Foresters with his time of
26:10, a personal best since donning a HU uniform. He was followed by Dan
Lindbloom in fourth (26:38); Joseph Njeri in fifth (26:47); Cody Hannie in
eighth (27:01); Luke Diehl in 12th (27:34); Michael Lehman in 16th
(27:52); Luke Andrews in 17th (28:04); Josh Barnett in 29th
(30:30); and Dan Schaber in 30th (31:04).
In
women’s action, four Foresters finished in the top seven in the 5K event to
post a winning team score of 28. They topped Bethel (32), Marian (71) and
St. Francis (97).
Emily Holliday crossed
the line second with a time of 19:58, her best time of the season by 55
seconds, to lead HU. Right behind Holliday were Molly Andrews (3rd,
20:00) and Ashley Buck (4th, 20:04). Vanessa Macias was seventh
in 20:41; Jill Roughia was 12th in 21:04; and Laura Bowman was 14th
in 21:21.
