Men’s Cross Country

Optimism abounds for the men’s cross country team as four of the top five runners return from a team that finished 12th at the NAIA Cross Country National Championship last fall.  Coach Tom King will look for leadership from two returning NAIA All-Region and MCC All-Conference harriers, senior Nick Johnson and junior Joseph Njeri.

Two new freshmen will add depth to the Foresters’ roster.  Both Joseph Herber (Fremont HS, Fremont, IN) and Alec Rosario (Wheeler HS, Valparaiso, IN) have the potential to make an impact in their first season.

Coach King hopes that the squad’s experience will carry them back to nationals again this season. “With seven runners back with experience at the national level, we feel we have the potential to be very good this year,” said Coach King.  “We have a great foundation to build on and look forward to competing for a return trip to the national championship.”

Women’s Cross Country

Last season, an inexperienced women’s cross country team finished eighth in the MCC and 14th in the NAIA Region VIII meet.  Jill Roughia, the top runner for the Foresters last fall, returns for her senior campaign.

Coach King expects a much improved season with the experience garnered by the underclassman as well as the addition of four freshmen to the roster. Britley McConnell (South Christian HS, Kentwood, MI) and Krystal McHenry (Fremont HS, Fremont, IN) should both make an early impact on the team.  Sarah Krzynowek (Northwestern Regional HS, New Hartford, CT) and Molly Shirey (Home school, Mooreland, IN) will also contribute as they gain experience at the collegiate level.

“The women should be much improved this year even though we have a large percentage of underclassmen on the roster,” said Coach King.  “Our upperclassmen will be great leaders and our less experienced runners are all very eager to compete.”
