| 10.4.04 - The Foresters
headed into their final conference match of the season hoping to gain enough
ground to move into fifth place in the conference, which would earn them a
spot in the NAIA Region VIII Tournament in the spring. HC finished the
day in sixth place with a 324, five strokes back of Taylor University(319),
the team they needed to try to catch. HC's Dan Knuth led the team with a 78
on the day. Andrew Porterfield, who earned All-Conference honors with
his 76-stroke average in conference play, finished with an 80. Justin
Knierim had an 81 and Josh Fortney shot an 84. "We faced some tough
conditions today," said Coach Schownir. "It was very cold and
windy, and we had to switch courses at the last minute. We ended up on
a very long, tough course that none of us had seen. Dan played very
well shooting one of the better individual scores of the day. Overall, we
played well today, we just couldn't get the putts to drop when we needed
them." Marian College won the final MCC event with a 303 and
continued their dominance in the conference, winning their seventh
consecutive title with an overall score of 1204, which was 20 strokes better
than the second place finisher, Bethel College (1224). Indiana Wesleyan
University finished third in the overall standings with a 1230 followed by
Spring Arbor University (1245) in fourth, Taylor University (1249) in fifth,
HC (1270) in sixth, University of St. Francis (1307) in seventh, Grace
College (1375) in eighth, and Goshen College (1496) in ninth. The
Foresters finish their fall schedule with a record of 25-43. |
