04.22.05 - In their final match of the year, the Foresters posted all five scores in the 70's despite cold and wet conditions and finished fourth in the Malone College Invitational.  The event, which was scheduled as a two-day, 36-hole tournament, was shortened by a day due to the weather.

"This was our best round in about a year and a half and on a course we had never seen before with rain most of the day and temperatures in the upper 40's," said Coach Schownir.  "In my four seasons as coach, there was only one other time we had all five scores in the 70's."

Andrew Porterfield and Dan Knuth each shot a 75 to lead HC.  Jay Tropf finished with a 77.  Wes Knuth had a 78 and Justin Knierim added a 79.

Malone, currently ranked 10th in the NAIA, posted a 296 to win the team title.  Tiffin was second with a 302 followed by Walsh with a 304.  The Foresters were fourth with their 305, which was the top score of four participating MCC schools.  Ohio Dominican and Seton Hill tied for fifth at 308.  Indiana Wesleyan, ranked 21st in the NAIA, tied for seventh with Cedarville at 309, and #26 Marian was right behind them with a 310.  Malone "B" and Cornerstone both finished with 313 to tie for tenth, Taylor was twelfth with a 320, Columbus State was thirteenth at 325, and Urbana was fourteenth with a 334.

"I have mixed feelings about not playing the final round. It was raining and it was to have turned to snow during our round (a Winter Storm Watch was in effect) so it would have been miserable. On the other hand, I wish our team could have had the opportunity to play in the final pairings," said Schownir.

This was the team's final event of the year, but junior Andrew Porterfield will continue on and compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Regional on April 29-30 at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Michigan.  Porterfield is the lone HC qualifier due to his All-MCC honors during the 2004 fall season.  The Foresters conclude their season with a 42-50 record.
