| 9.27.04 - In their second
MCC match of the season, the Foresters improved with a fifth
place finish, but their score of 317 lost them more ground in the overall
standings. HC enter the match in sixth place, six strokes out of
fifth place. The Foresters now need to make up 10 strokes to move into
fifth place, which would give them an opportunity to play in the NAIA Region
VIII Tournament in the spring. Andrew Porterfield again led HC with a
75, which tied him for second place in the individual standings. Jay
Tropf and Dan Knuth both shot 79, while Wes Knuth and Justin Knierim both
finished with 84. "We wasted a golden opportunity to move up in
the standings and instead dug a deeper hole," said Coach Schownir.
"We can't keep counting 84's and expect a good team score. Some of our
players finished poorly down the stretch. We have two tournaments
to make up 10 strokes or we don't qualify for regional in the spring."
Marian College won the match with a score of 302 and is currently holding the
top spot in the standings with a combined score of 604. Bethel College
and Taylor University both finished with 311 followed by Spring Arbor
University (313), HC (317), Indiana Wesleyan University (319), University of
St. Francis (323), Grace (338), and Goshen (390). The Foresters now
stand at 15-33 on the season. |
