9.30.04 - The Foresters posted their best score in MCC fall competition, a 308, and finished fifth in the match. Unfortunately, they lost more ground in the overall standings, now 16 strokes behind Taylor University and Spring Arbor University who are tied for fourth.  Bethel College won the event with a 294 followed by Marian College (297), Spring Arbor University (302), Taylor (304), HC (308), Indiana Wesleyan University (310), University of St. Francis (315), Grace College (338), and Goshen College (365).  Three Foresters shot in the 70s on the day.  Andrew Porterfield continued his hot play shooting an even par 72.  Wes Knuth had his best round of the fall with a 77, and Justin Knierim added a 79.  Dan Knuth was one stroke shy of making it a foursome with his 80. “I am pleased with the way our guys hung in there," said Coach Schownir.  "They made some mistakes but made some excellent recoveries too. I was happy to see Wes Knuth post his first solid round of the season and Andrew Porterfield showed why he is the top players in the MCC. Spring Arbor and Taylor were once again a few shots better than we were, but I believe in miracles and if we post a season low round at Monday’s conference finale, we just might sneak up and get that last spot for next spring’s regional.”  The Foresters are now 19-37 on the season.
