| 9.7.04 - The Forester golf
team opened its season with a 12th place finish at the University of
Indianapolis Invitational. Sixteen team squared off on the Heartland
Crossing links with the hosts successfully defending their home turf.
The Greyhounds (297) edged Marian College (298) by a stroke to take the team
title followed by Northern Kentucky (305), Butler (309), Bellermine (310),
Bethel (312), Southern Indiana (315), Taylor (316), St. Joseph's (318),
Franklin and Kentucky Wesleyan (321), HC (322), Brescia (323), St. Francis
(344), Kentucky State (365), and Oakland City (368). Medallist honors
went to Marian College's Stephen Ford who shot a two-under par 70. HC's
Andrew Porterfield got off to a slow start with double bogeys on his first
two holes, but then went five-under par on his final 16 to finish with a 71.
He then played two playoff holes against Indianapolis' Mike Amore, who also
shot a 71, and birdied the second hole to claim the second place finish
outright. "I can't say enough about Andrew's performance,"
said Coach Schownir. " Although he double-bogeyed his first two holes,
he didn’t quit and stayed patient." Other scorers for HC were
Justin Knierim (79), Wes Knuth (84), and Shawn Oertling (88). "We
are not used to playing a links-type course and the wind made it difficult
for our guys at times. Justin was spraying the ball off the tee, but really
hung in there to post a decent score.” With the 12th place finish,
the men are 4-11 on the season.. |
