- In the two-day Region VIII Preview Tournament, senior Andrew Porterfield
took top honors with a 149 (76, 73) to lead the Foresters to their
first win of the spring. HU won the tournament with a team score
of 636, followed by Cornerstone (639), Aquinas (641), Taylor (668),
St. Francis (669) and Concordia (733).
"Andrew Porterfield played
magnificently and deserved to win," said Coach Schownir. "This is his
third medalist title of his senior year and I am so proud of him."
Freshman Spencer Batt, who also shot
two rounds in the 70s for the Foresters, posted the fourth-best
individual score in the tournament with a 155. Other HU scores
included Justin Imel with a 165, Daniel Schroeder with a 167 and Ryan
Bonner with a 174.
"Spencer Batt comes to play every day
and performs more like a veteran rather than a freshman," commented
Schownir. "Justin Imel came off an ugly front nine (44) to shoot
par on the back nine and that helped seal the win for us. Even though
some of the top teams in the region were not here, this should give us
momentum heading into the regional tournament next week." |
