The Foresters hosted their own fall invitational at LaFontaine Golf
Club and came in five strokes behind Spring Arbor for a second place
finish. The Cougars, who competed in the NAIA National
Tournament last season, posted a 296 for the win with HU and
Olivet College following at 301. Taylor was fourth at 313 followed by Ancilla (316), St. Francis (320), Grace (327), and Goshen (357).
"I have mixed feelings in that I wish we could have won our own
invitational, but Spring Arbor is a very good team," said Coach
Schownir. "We just don't invite pansies so that we can hand
ourselves a trophy every year, we have to go out and earn it and this
is good for us."
Andrew Porterfield was one over par
with a 73 to lead HU. Justin Imel shot a 75, Spencer Batt had a
76 and Wes Knuth finished with a 77 to round out the scoring for the
Foresters.
"Andrew and Justin did well and Spencer
turned in a good score for us" said Schownir. "We scored 148 on
the front nine, but we had to count three double bogies on the back
nine and finished with a 153. We have to eliminate those
mistakes to get to the next level."
The Foresters now stand at 19-15 on the
season. |
