Facing a very talented field in their season opener, the Foresters
finished tenth of eleven teams in the Indiana Wesleyan Fall
Invitational. Sophomore Patrick Davis, who teed it up for the
first time for HU, posted the Foresters'
best score in the
two-day event with back-to-back rounds of 78. His 156 tournament
total placed him in a tie for 30th overall.
"I can't say enough about Patrick's
performance," said Coach Schownir. "This was his first
collegiate tournament and he played steady on a difficult course he
had only seen once before. He handled things very well."
Andrew Porterfield was just a stroke
behind Davis with a 157 (76, 81). Freshman Dan Schroeder, also
his first outing, posted a 166 (86, 80), Dan Knuth came in at 167 (82,
85) and Wes Knuth was at 170 (80, 90).
Mt. Mercy (IA) won the Invitational
with a team score of 587 (300, 287). The Foresters had a 316 in
the opening round and followed that up with a 324 on the second 18 for
a 640. "This is the toughest field we'll face all year
until the MCC tournament, so I am not disappointed with our standing
but I am displeased at how we did not improve our score on the second
day," stated Schownir. "I am going to put in some of our
freshmen next week to see how they do." |
