Batt took
medalist honors at the Manchester Spartan Invitational with a two
round score of 149 to lead the Foresters to a second place finish.
Batt posted a 78 on the first 18 holes and then fired a tournament low
71 in the second round to take top-honors.
"Spencer really came back and played a
great tournament this weekend," said Coach Mark Green. "It was great
to see a Huntington golfer win medalist."
Franklin nipped HU
for the team title shooting a 625 to the Foresters' 626.
Manchester was third with a score of 635 followed by Rose-Hulman
(655), Calvin (657), Mt. St. Joseph (701) and Defiance (720).
Other scores for
the Foresters included Justin Imel (80, 76) with a 156, Dan Schroeder
(81, 79) with a 160, Ryan Bonner (82, 79) with a 161 and Patrick Davis
(88, 79) with a 167.
"This is a match that we really felt
like we should win, so to lose by one stroke was a little
disappointing. The playing conditions were very difficult for the
first 18 holes, and I think our inexperience showed during the
morning round. It's tough to mentally prepare yourself to play when
it's 40 degrees, windy, and raining, but that's what we're going to
have to learn to do if we're going to compete with the best teams."
With their second place finish, HU now stand 40-34-3
on the year. |
