Just eight
strokes separated the top four teams in the final standings of the
Mid-Central Conference Championship. Unfortunately, the
Foresters were at the wrong end of the list finishing fourth with a
team score of 898.
Indiana Wesleyan took the team title
with a three-round score of 890 followed by Bethel (892), Marian
(895), HU (898), Spring Arbor (916), St. Francis (935), Grace (946),
Taylor (959) and Goshen (1108). The top six teams qualified for
the NAIA Region VIII Tournament that will be held in the spring.
Despite the fourth
place finish, HU put three players, Cory Powell, Spencer Batt and Ryan
Bonner, among the top 10 finishers which earned them MCC
All-Conference honors. Powell shot a 69 in his final round to
finish with a team-best 223. Batt and Bonner both ended with a
229. Patrick Davis was fourth with a 230. Dan Schroeder
had a 232 and Justin McMillan shot a 233 for the tournament.
"Our conference is loaded with some very good golf teams," said Coach
Green. "Finishing fourth is not where we wanted to finish, but
finishing just eight strokes out of first place isn't too bad for a
young team like ours. It was definitely an experience that we have
learned from as a team. Now we can prepare for our regional
tournament in the spring and try to get to Nationals."
The Foresters finish
the fall portion of their schedule with a 32-8 record. |
