Battling the elements and a strong field of competitors, the Foresters dug
themselves a hole too deep to overcome with an uncharacteristic 324
on the first day of the Cedarville Invitational, but a 301 in the
second round ensured a second place finish with a 625 for the
tournament. The University of the Cumberlands won the event
with a 610.
"We
had two goals going into the second day and we were able to
accomplish both," said Coach Green. "We knew that we had no way to
catch Cumberlands because of their 18 stroke lead, so we wanted to
move closer to them and remain in second place."
Justin Imel played
two solid rounds with 76 both days to pace HU. Spencer Batt
had a 156 (80, 76). Ryan Bonner shot a 158 (84, 74). Jordan Dawes
turned in a 159 (84, 75) and Cory Powell finished with a 161 (85,
76).
"There were some very good college golf teams here at this
tournament, so to finish second is great," stated Green. "The
conditions on the course were very cold, windy, and rainy. I think
it was a good mental challenge for our guys to compete in that kind
of weather." The host Yellow Jackets finished
third behind the Cumberlands and the Foresters with a score of 632
followed by Indiana Tech (641), Cornerstone (649), Mt. Vernon
Nazarene (652), Campbellsville (656), Oakland City (674), Cedarville
B (683), Shawnee State and Northwestern Ohio (687) and Cincinnati
Christian (723). |
