05.15.09 - Since winning the Mid-Central Conference Tournament on April 28, the Forester golf team has been diligently preparing for the program's first trip to the NAIA National Tournament being hosted by TPC @ Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois May 19-22.  As they head into this uncharted territory, they are hoping to put three great rounds of golf together with perhaps a stroke of luck to make the cut and earn a spot in the field for the final 18 holes.

The squad will get in two practice rounds at Deere Run prior to the tournament.  The 72-hole national event will begin on Tuesday, May 19.  After 54 holes have been completed, the field will be trimmed down to 17 teams and 40 individuals for the final round on Friday, May 22.

Members of the Conference Championship team include seniors Spencer Batt, Ryan Bonner, Justin Imel and Dan Schroeder, sophomore Cory Powell and freshman Jordan Dawes. Batt, Bonner, Dawes and Imel each finished in the top 10 in individual scoring at the MCC Tournament to earn All-Conference honors and Coach Mark Green was named the MCC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

All six golfers had stroke averages in the seventies for the year with Imel leading the team at 76.06. As a team, they averaged 304 for 18 holes with low rounds of 291 and 292. The team won three tournaments during the year, was runner-up in two others and finished the regular season with a record of 71-17.

For more information on the National Tournament, see NAIA Golf Championship.
