- In
the Championship game of the Huntington College Ness Bros. Hall of Fame
Classic, the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes upset the Huntington College
Foresters 92-90 in overtime. Down 13 with six minutes remaining in the
first half, the Foresters battled their way back and found themselves within
one at 43-42 going into halftime. It was a knock-down, drag-out battle
in the second half, and even though the Foresters led most of the period, the
Golden Tornadoes refused to quit and tied the game 78-78 with just three
seconds remaining. Huntington’s Kyle Ganton missed a 3-point attempt
as time expired. In the overtime period, the seesaw battle waged on
with neither team able to establish a safe lead. A layup and a free
throw from Alex Kock gave the Foresters a 90-89 lead with just 38 seconds
left to play. Geneva worked the ball around to get Nate Conley a layup
attempt. He missed the shot, but grabbed his own rebound and laid it in
on his second try. Ganton missed a jumper at the other end and
Huntington was forced to foul. Matt Small hit one of two from the line
to give the Golden Tornadoes a 92-90 lead, and Seth Lochmueller’s jumper at
the buzzer was off the mark. Huntington was lead by sophomores Koch,
who finished with 31 points and 11 rebounds, and Ganton who added 18 points
and three rebounds. Geneva’s Tim Sawyer, named the tournament’s
Most Valuable Player, lead the Golden Tornadoes with 28 points. Joining
Sawyer on the All-Tournament team were HC's Kock and Ganton, Geneva's Conley,
Siena Heights Lloyd Cowles and Trinity International's Jared Keiffer.
With the loss the Foresters fall to 5-3 on the season.
