12.4.04 - Although the NAIA Division II 3rd-ranked Foresters like a more up-tempo style of play, they proved they could win a physical, slower paced, defensive battle as well with their 53-48 victory over MCC rival, Taylor University.  Play got off to a slow start for both teams, but the Trojans owned an 11-6 lead six minutes into the game when Coach Platt inserted Jared Yoder into the lineup.  Yoder scored nine of the Foresters' next 13 points on three long bombs to help jumpstart HC's offense and give them a 19-15 lead with just under nine minutes left in the half.  Taylor's defense re-grouped and held the Foresters to just one field goal the rest of the half allowing the Trojans to take a 23-21 lead at the break.  The offensive struggle continued into the second half with neither team able to build a significant lead.  With the score tied at 39-39 with 8:28 on the clock, HC's Kyle Ganton connected on his second trey of the game to give the Foresters the lead for good.  Taylor's Mike Parson hit a layup to pull the Trojan's back within one, but two Ganton free throws and layup from Snider gave HC a little breathing room with a 46-41 lead.  Taylor's Eric Ford hit a quick jumper to make it 46-43, but the Trojans would get no closer down the stretch as HC got a layup and a thunderous dunk from Doug Sheckler and 3-4 free throws from Steve Snider to seal the win.  Jared Yoder and Steve Snider both led the Foresters with 12 points each and Doug Sheckler and Kyle Ganton contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.  Taylor was led by Mike Parsons' 13 points and nine rebounds.  Ford added 10 points and six rebounds.  With the win, the Foresters remain unbeaten in the MCC with a 3-0 record and improve to 9-4 on the season.
