02.12.05 - The Foresters overcame a sloppy start to the game to
pick up the 75-60 win over Spring Arbor University. The
Cougars took advantage of HC's 1-3 start from the field and three
turnovers to build an 11-2 lead four minutes into the game.
The Foresters then settled down and scored on their next four
possessions to trim the deficit to 15-12 with 13:51 on the clock.
The rest of the half was controlled by HC's defense. The
Foresters held the Cougars to just five points while pouring in 23
points themselves to take a 35-20 lead at the break. In the
second half, the Foresters continued to cruise pushing their
half-time lead to as many as 25 on several occasions, the last
coming on a jumper in the paint by Alex Kock to make it 73-48 with
4:21 left to play. Spring Arbor closed out the game on a 12-2
run, but it was too little too late for the Cougars. Kock had
an outstanding performance to lead the Foresters. He went
12-15 from the field including 4-5 from downtown and grabbed a
game-high 12 boards. Kyle Ganton finished with 14 points, Doug
Sheckler had 11 and Chase Verba added 10 points and three assists.
Jason DeSmyter led the Cougars with 15 points. The win gives
the men a 19-9 record on the season and moves them back into first
place in the MCC standings at 11-4.
