02.26.05 - In semi-final
action of the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) Tournament, the NAIA 7th-ranked
Foresters (22-9) cruised to a 93-61 win over the visiting Lancers of
Grace College (18-12). A layup by Grace’s Marcus Moore gave the
Lancers their only lead of the game at 13-11 seven minutes into the
contest. Back-to-back jumpers from Kyle Ganton re-claimed the lead
for Huntington and ignited a 12-0 run that put the Foresters up
23-13 midway through the half. The Lancers battled back to within
two at 25-23 with 8:05 on the clock, but Huntington answered with a
12-4 run to push the lead back to 37-27. Following another lay-in
by Moore, the Foresters closed out the period with a 13-0 run to
take a comfortable 50-29 lead at intermission. Grace’s Kyle Johnson
dropped in a jumper at the start of the second half to get the
deficit under 20, but the Lancers would not get that close again.
The Foresters put it on cruise control and left no doubt, pushing
the lead to as many as 35 with four minutes to play. Ganton, who
went 7-9 from the field and 4-4 from the line for Huntington, took
game-high honors with his 19 points. Doug Sheckler added 17 off the
bench and Alex Kock chipped in 15. Moore led the Lancers with 15
points. The win moves Huntington to the championship game of the
MCC Tournament on Tuesday, March 1. The top-seeded Foresters will
host the 2nd-seeded Trojans of Taylor University at 7:00
p.m.
