- The Spring Arbor Cougars sizzled the nets from downtown to pull off the
91-88 upset over the NAIA 3rd-ranked Foresters. HU hit two more
field goals and two more free throws than the Cougars. The
Foresters also out-rebounded Spring Arbor 36-32 and had five fewer
turnovers, but the Cougars went 14-25 from behind the arc, while HU
was just 5-13.
Cougar Mike Folkert opened the scoring
in the game with the first of his nine treys. A 7-7 tie at the
17:12 mark was the last time HU would get that close. The
two teams took turns making runs the remainder of the first half and
headed to the locker room with the Cougars up 45-43.
The Foresters kept it close early in
the second half and were within one at 53-52 following an Alex Kock
free throw with 14:47 on the clock. On Spring Arbor's next
possession, Folkert hit another three igniting a 13-3 run over the
next two minutes to give the Cougars an 11-point advantage.
After trading baskets for four minutes, Spring Arbor put together a
9-1 run to take its largest lead of the contest at 79-62 with 7:17
remaining.
Down 16 with 4:30 to go, the Foresters
made one last fast and furious run. HU outscored the Cougars 16-1
over the next 3:35 to pull within 89-88 with 55 seconds left.
Micah Lancaster missed a jumper with 29 seconds to go and HU's Kyle
Ganton grabbed the rebound. Kock's try with 12 ticks left would
have given the Foresters their first lead of the game lead, but it was
off the mark and HU was forced to foul. Spring Arbor's Scott
Parrish sank both attempts to give the Cougars a 91-88 lead.
Ganton was able to get off two 3-point attempts in the final seconds,
but neither one found the bottom of the net.
Spring Arbor's Folkert topped all

from downtown. Lancaster added 28 points and five assists.
HU had five players score in double figures with Kyle Benge hitting
for 20 off the bench to lead the team. Ganton had his third
double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards. Doug
Sheckler finished with 17 points, Kock added 15 points and eight
rebounds and Steve Snider had 10 points. The loss drops the men
