- The Georgetown College Tigers were on the prowl looking to avenge a 95-71
loss to the Foresters earlier this season. For much of the
game's first 34 minutes, Georgetown (17-3) kept ahead of HU, but a
late rally lifted the Foresters (18-4) to the 78-74 win.
Although the Foresters held a slim 10-7
lead five minutes into the contest, it was very short-lived. The
Tigers scored seven unanswered points to take a 14-10 lead at the
13:39 mark. HU fought back and regained the lead at 19-18, but a
12-4 Georgetown run gave the Tigers their largest lead of the half at
30-23 with 6:06 on the clock. Both teams made another small run
over the final six minutes of the half, and they headed to the locker
room with Georgetown up 39-33.
The Foresters had a sluggish start to
the second period and soon found themselves down 11 at 50-39 with a
little over 15 minutes to play. A field goal from Steve Snider
finally ignited HU's offense as the Foresters scrambled back to take a
56-55 lead on a trey from Kyle Ganton with 8:35 to go. A seesaw
battled ensued over the next five and a half minutes and resulted in a
69-69 tie with 2:57 left. The Forester defense came up big,
holding the Tigers to one field goal down the stretch, and allowing
the offense to build a seven-point cushion. A Georgetown
3-pointer at the buzzer accounted for the final margin of victory.
HU's Alex Kock and Kyle Ganton
inflicted most of the damage on the Tigers. Kock went 12-20 from
the field, including 3-7 from behind the arc and 6-7 from the line for
a season-high 33 points and eight boards. Ganton was 7-9 for the
game, including 5-6 from downtown and 4-5 from the charity stripe.
Georgetown's Brian Silverhorn took game-high honors with his 35 points
in the game. He was the lone Tiger to reach double figures.
For the game, the Tigers hit three more total field goals (30-27) than
HU and hit 11 threes to eight for the Foresters. But the
difference in the game came at the free throw line where HU went 16-21
for 76%, while Georgetown was 3-11 for 27%.
