01.03.06 - After taking a break from conference play, the Foresters returned to MCC action against Marian College and outlasted the Knights 69-62 to pick up their fifteenth win of the season.

HU scored the first four points of the contest and steadily built a double digit lead at 19-9 with 11:50 to go in the half.  The Foresters were still up 12 at 25-13 with six minutes left in the period when they put a 14-5 run on Marian to push their lead to 21 at 39-18 with a little over a minute to play.  The Foresters headed to the locker room seemingly in command of the game with a comfortable 40-21 lead.

But the game became a tale of two halves.  The Knights found their defense at the break and put the clamps on HU.  With just over eleven minutes left in the second half Marian had trimmed the Foresters' lead to nine at 53-44.  HU's Steve Snider and Kyle Benge each scored to push it back to a 13-point spread.  The Knights responded with a 6-0 run to cut it to seven at 57-50 with 8:24 on the clock.  Benge knocked down a jumper for the Foresters to end Marian's run, and then Doug Sheckler scored five consecutive points including a monstrous dunk off an alley-oop pass from Benge to cap a 7-0 Forester spurt.  But the Knights still would not go away.  Marian made one more rally attempt to pull within five at 67-62 with 34 seconds left, but Sheckler sealed the win with two charity tosses.

HU’s Alex Kock topped all scorers in the game with 21 points.  Sheckler finished with 14 points and six rebounds and Benge added 12 points off the bench.  Marian was led by Derek Huffman's 18 points and six boards.  With the win, the Foresters improve to 4-1 in the conference and 15-3 overall.
