12.17.05 - Huntington University junior Kyle Ganton scored nine of his team-high 23 points down the stretch to lead the NAIA 5th-ranked Foresters (12-3) to the 85-70 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph (5-10).  The two teams battled back and forth throughout most of the first half with neither team able to build a comfortable advantage.  With the Foresters up 24-23 at the 4:36 mark, HU’s Doug Sheckler hit a jumper that sparked a 14-2 run to close out the half, giving the Foresters a 38-25 lead at the break.

The Crimson Wave got it back to single digits early in the second period at 42-33 on a trey by Evinn Herring, one of his seven in the game.  Huntington responded with a 9-0 spurt to give the Foresters their largest lead of the game at 51-33.  Calumet continued to fight back and again chipped away at the deficit behind the long-range shooting of Herring to make it an eight-point game at 66-58 with 8:23 to play.  A Herring free throw at the seven minute mark made to 68-59, but it would be the last time the Crimson Wave would be within single digits.  After assisting a Sheckler dunk, Ganton took over for Huntington.  He scored nine of Huntington’s next eleven points over a four minute span to put the game out of Calumet’s reach.

Three other Foresters joined Ganton in double figures for Huntington.  Sheckler finished with 19 off the bench and Steve Snider and Alec Kock each added 14.  The Foresters won the battle of the boards 38-27.  Chase Verba and Kock both pulled down nine boards to lead Huntington.  Calumet’s Herring took game-high honors with 30 points on 11-21 shooting, including 7-14 from behind the arc.
