12.31.05 - With Alex Kock and Steve Snider, two of the Foresters' top three scorers, out with the flu, HU didn't miss a beat, knocking off the NCAA Division II Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers 74-54.

Through the first five minutes of play, the score seesawed back and forth with Kentucky Wesleyan up 9-8 at the 15:10 mark.  A layup by Doug Sheckler sparked a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to give the Foresters a 21-11 lead.  After trading a pair of baskets, HU then took control of the game with a 15-3 run to take its largest lead of the half at 38-18 with 2:46 to go in the half.  KWC's Tyson Martin scored the final five points of the half to make it 38-23 at the break.

The Panthers continued to cut into HU's lead early in the second stanza.  A trey by Jason Aaron brought KWC within five at 40-35 four minutes into the half, but it was a close as they would get.  Sheckler and Kyle Ganton each contributed a layup and a jumper to an 8-0 Forester run that put HU ahead by double digits for good.  The Panthers cut it to 53-42 with 11:49 to play, but the Forester defense took over and held KWC to three field goals the rest of the game.

Ganton took game-high honors with his double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds.  Sheckler and Kyle Benge, who replaced Kock and Snider in the starting lineup, combined for 38 points in the game.  Sheckler finished with 21 points and seven boards, and Benge went 6-9 from the field and 4-5 from the line for 17 points and added three assists and four steals.  For the game, HU shot a blistering 56% from the field, while holding the Panthers to 33%.  The Foresters will return to conference play on Tuesday with a record of 14-3.
