02.22.06 - In first round Mid-Central Conference tournament action, the NAIA 2nd-ranked Huntington University Foresters (26-5) blew away the Maple Leafs of Goshen College (13-17) 74-46.  The Foresters came out on fire shooting 61% from the floor in the fist half and made good use of the long ball, knocking down 8 of 13 from behind the arc to run away with the game early.  A three-pointer by David Haire a minute and a half into the contest gave Goshen a 3-2 lead, but the Foresters quickly squelched any potential threat with a 29-4 run over the next ten minutes of play.  A free throw from Eric Walsh at the 7:43 mark ended a five minute scoring drought for the Leafs, but by that time, HU owned a commanding 23-point lead at 31-8.  The Foresters continued to pour it on and headed to the locker room with a 46-18 advantage.

In the second half, HU pushed the advantage to 33 early and then put it on cruise control to pick up the first round win.  Statistically, the Foresters were dominant in every category.  HU out-rebounding the Leafs 38-28 and had six less turnovers.  The Foresters shot 48% for the game, including 50% from downtown, while Goshen shot 30% from the field and 32% from behind the arc.

HU’s Kyle Ganton took game-high honors with 21 points.  Doug Sheckler added 19 points and eight boards, and Alex Kock notched his ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Jordan Buller paced the Leafs with 16 points and Walsh added 14.  With the win, the Foresters move on to the semifinal round of the MCC Tournament when they host the winner of the Spring Arbor University/ University of St. Francis game on Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m.
