01.20.07 - Despite suffering through a poor shooting performance,
the #5-ranked Foresters were able to find enough offense to notch win
number 20 on the season with a 63-52 victory over Marian College.
In the first half, HU
(20-3, 8-1) connected on just 9 of 24 shot attempts for 38%, but was able to
manage a 26-19 half-time lead by holding the Knights (7-10, 2-7) to just six field
goals on 24% shooting.
As the second half began, First Team All-American Alex Kock took over
the game for the Foresters. Kock scored HU's first 12 points in
the period to help give the Foresters a 10-point cushion with 14:48 to
play.
After alternating
buckets, HU opened its biggest lead of the day at 46-33, with 8:24 on
the clock.
Marian was able to cut the lead to six at 52-46 with 3:05 on the
clock. The Knights continued to battle, but could get no closer than
seven with 39 seconds remaining. The Foresters then sealed the
win at the line.
Kock took game-high honors in the game with 27 points and nine
rebounds. Kyle Ganton and Doug Sheckler added 11 and 10 points
respectively for HU. Marian's Jared Reeves topped three Knights
in double figures with 16. Jeff Manley chipped in 12 and Brandon
Buscher finished with 10.
The Foresters shot 48% in the second half to finish at 43% for the
game while the Knights shot 35% for the game. HU out-rebounded
Marian 34-28.
