11.14.06 - The NAIA II 2nd-ranked Forester’s (3-1) took on the Shawnee State University Bears (2-1) in their home opener and downed the Bears 88-71.

The Foresters knocked down their first six shots of the game, including four treys, to open up a 10-point lead at 16-6 four minutes into the contest.  HU pushed its advantage to 16 on a layup by Doug Sheckler at the 9:51 mark and took a 45-32 lead to the break.

The Foresters came out cold at the start of the second half and the Bears put together a small run but still struggled to cut the lead to single digits at 54-47 with 12:56 to play.  HU quickly swung the momentum back in its favor with a 10-3 run over the next three minutes to make it a 64-50 game, but the Bears had one more run left.  Shawnee out-scored the Foresters 14-6 to pull within six at 70-64 with four minutes to play, but again HU answered.  Alex Kock drained a three at the 3:20 mark and when Shawnee's Bryan Robinson missed a jumper, the Bears were forced to start fouling.  The Foresters went 11-12 at the line in the final two and half minutes of play to seal the win.

Kock led three Foresters in double figures with 26 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds.  Kyle Ganton lit it up with 22 points including three treys and went 9-9 from the charity stripe.  Kyle Benge chipped in 20 points and Jared Yoder dished out nine assists in the game.  three assists.  Shawnee's Josh Reed lead all scorers in the game with 32.
