11.17.06 - The NAIA Division II 2nd ranked Huntington University Foresters (4-1) took on the Trinity International University Trojans (1-5) in opening round action of the Huntington University/Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Classic. After a bit of a sluggish start, the Foresters ran away with the 92-60 win.

Huntington opened the game hitting just four of their first 14 shots, but a Doug Sheckler layup at the 14-minute mark put the Foresters ahead 13-3.  Two 3-pointers and a steal and a layup kept Trinity International close at 18-11, but a Sheckler jumper with 7:11 on the clock pushed Huntington’s lead back to double digits at 26-16 and the Foresters were able to double it by the end of the half as they headed to the locker room up 47-27.

It was more of the same to start the second half as the Foresters’ advantage ballooned to 34 points at 69-35 with 14:25 to play.  A trey from Kyle Johnson at the 6:26 mark gave Huntington its largest lead of the night at 86-49 and the Foresters cruised to the lop-sided victory.

Huntington’s Alex Kock took game-high honors with 20 points and seven rebounds in the game.  He was joined in double figures by Kyle Benge with 18, Sheckler with 14 and Kyle Ganton with 13.  Josh Edmon paced the Trojans with 14 points and Dejan Matic added 12.

The Foresters shot 57% for the game hitting 34 of their 60 shot attempts including 12 of 24 from behind the arc and they were a perfect 12-12 from the line.  Trinity International went 24-60 from the field for 40% and 6-10 for 60% from the charity stripe.  The Foresters won the battle of the boards 36-28.

In the first game of the evening, Aquinas College outlasted Malone College 79-68.  Malone will face Trinity International in tomorrow’s consolation game at 1:00 p.m. and the Foresters will face Aquinas in the championship game at 3:00 p.m.
