11.21.06 - In their first MCC match-up of the season, the NAIA Division II 2nd-ranked Huntington University Foresters (6-1, 1-0) ran away with the 87-55 win over the Marian College Knights (2-3, 0-1).

The first half was marked by scrappy play and turnovers at both ends of the court.  After the Foresters missed their first four shot attempts, Kyle Benge finally put the first points on the board with a layup almost three minutes into the game.  Eight minutes in, the score remained in single digits tied at 7-7.

Over the next five minutes, HU slowly began to shift the momentum and started to pull away.  With just under eight minutes to go in the half, Kyle Ganton knocked down a trey to give the Foresters a 19-9 lead.

Although both teams were plagued with turnovers, the Foresters with 21 and Marian with 17 for the night, HU was able to use the Knight’s errors to their advantage, and extended the lead to 18 at the break.

In the second stanza, the Foresters put the game out of reach over the first seven minutes with a 21-8 run, giving themselves a commanding 54-29 advantage.  The Foresters continued to pour it on and a Doug Sheckler three at the 3:55 mark gave the Foresters their largest lead of the night at 80-43.

HU's Alex Kock took game-high honors with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the contest.  Ganton chipped in 18 and Benge and Kevin Kyle both added 12 points.  HU point guard, Jared Yoder, dished out 10 assists on the night.  Derek James was the lone Knight to reach double digits with 14 points.  The Foresters dominated Marian on the boards 42-15.
