02.17.07 - The NAIA 5th-ranked Huntington University Foresters (26-4, 14-2) rounded out their regular season with an 81-69 win over Grace College (19-10, 7-9).  With the win, Huntington also secured the top seed in next week’s Mid-Central Conference tournament, giving them home court advantage in the post-season.

The Foresters opened the game with a 5-0 spurt, but Grace battled back and took its only lead of the contest at 10-9 on a three by Marcus Moore.  Huntington came back with a 10-2 run to go up seven at 19-12 midway through the half and then slowly pulled away from the Lancers over the final 10 minutes.  Two free throws by Jared Yoder with 32 seconds left gave the Foresters a 41-27 margin at the break.

In the second half, Huntington continued to increase its advantage to as many as 20 with 13:11 left and kept the lead in double digits the remainder of the game.  Grace got back within 10 twice in the closing minutes, but the Foresters’ closed out the win, hitting 11 of 12 charity tosses down the stretch.

Huntington’s Alex Kock topped all scorers in the game with 24 points.  Joining Kock in double figures for the Foresters was Kyle Ganton with 23, Luke Smith with 12 and Jared Yoder with 11.  Austin Kaiser led the Lancers with 19 points off the bench.  Grace’s Eric Gaff grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.  The Foresters won the battle of the boards 32-27.

The Foresters return to action on Wednesday, February 21 when host the #8seeded Marian College in first round action of the Mid-Central Conference tournament at 7:00 p.m.
