- The National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the
Division II basketball awards for the 2006-07 season and senior
forward Alex Kock took the NAIA's top honor.
Kock capped off a
stellar career by earning the NAIA Division II National Player of the
Year award. Kock, a Physical Education and Health major from Auburn,
Indiana (DeKalb High School), led the Foresters to a 29-5 record and
their seventh appearance in the NAIA National Tournament by averaging
a double-double with his 23.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Throughout the season, he was named Mid-Central Conference (MCC)
Player of the Week six times and was NAIA National Player of the Week
for the week ending February 11. Nationally, Kock finished the season
fourth in Division II in defensive rebounds averaging 8.1 per game and
seventh in scoring with his 23.4 average.
Senior Kyle Ganton,
an Elementary Education major from Coldwater, Michigan (Bronson High
School), repeated as a Second Team All-American. Ganton, who was
runner-up to Kock for Player of the Year in the MCC, was Huntington's
second leading scorer, averaging 18.8 points per game. He also was
clutch at the foul line, knocking down 145 of 161 attempts for a
team-leading 90.1%. Ganton ranked third nationally with his free
throw percentage.
